PUBLIC SAFETY
You know what it takes to make you and your family safe. You also know what issues your neighborhoods may be facing and what improvements are needed. Our town should share that concern in making sure we have a safe community.

One of the most effective ways we can have a strong, safe community is by electing officials who listen to your concerns and respond with timely action. We can patrol your community tirelessly, but without your input we cannot be as effective as possible. If elected, it will be my priority to listen to citizens. I will work to hold public forums and other action groups that will allow these concerns to be discussed openly. We can then ensure our communities are safe by providing we have adequate police and fire presence where it’s most needed.

The other issue that we face is the rapid growth of our town. At the pace Winterville is growing it is inevitable that our police and fire protection will become spread thin. We need to make sure that we place special consideration on providing adequate funding to continue growing these departments.

One of my goals as Alderman will be to continue seeking grants and other funding that will allow us to grow and sustain our protection programs without placing the burden of cost on our citizens.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
We all want to know where our tax dollars go. We should have an awareness and understanding of how our government is using its operating funds.

These funds should be going towards the well being of our citizens as well as for the growth of the town. If our taxes are increased, our town’s leadership needs to be responsible for raising citizen awareness and explaining its purpose. More so, our town's Board of Alderman needs to make sure we are planning for the future well in advance so that we can avoid having to impede last minute charges upon our citizens to make up for inadequate forecasting.

I am committed to working for the future of Winterville and making financial decisions with fairness and impartiality. I will also weigh the risk and opportunity of every decision I make in my role as Alderman. To be successful we must make well thought out decisions and not just those that are right for the moment.

A UNIFIED COMMUNITY
It has always been my belief that public leaders should actively involve voters in the governmental process. One of the unique things about our town government is that each Alderman is elected at-large. Instead of representing a specific district, these individuals are elected by the entire town and represent all of Winterville. I will work hard to raise your awareness of the issues that our town is facing and take note of your concerns if elected Alderman. All of us deserve to have a strong voice in the governance of our town. I bring the experience of being able to put differences aside and make the correct decisions for our future.

At the same time, we need to unite our town government along these same lines. To be successful we all must work together and develop a mutual understanding of all sides and opinions. I would like to see each elected official and all members of our town’s government put aside personal agendas and interest, and work toward a common goal, the good of our town and its citizens. We must all realize that whatever decision is made will affect all of us like a family, not just affecting one, but affecting all. We also need to ensure that we are looking at the bigger picture of where we will be in the future and make decisions around a common vision. It is critical that we consider long-term needs, to avoid making rash decisions that create future problems.

I am focused on bringing confidence to our town’s government and promoting strong, effective relationships between governing officials and citizens. If we succeed, we can plan for a better tomorrow ... a better Winterville.

PARKS AND RECREATION
Our town has done a wonderful job over the past couple of years in expanding our program offerings and continuing to update our facilities. However, with the growth of our town, it is inevitable that our citizens will need more recreational and entertainment services and programs. A sometimes overlooked service, parks and recreation is vital to our quality of life, as individuals and as a community. Our town government needs to make sure that we have the facilities and staff in place to meet user demands, but also that we plan for future demands now.

As with other town responsibilities in public safety and infrastructure, the cost burden should not solely be placed on Winterville’s citizens. We need to find creative avenues for raising the necessary funds to finance capital projects. Grants are a good start, but a temporary solution. We need to find the means for sustaining future development and growth.

Winterville’s facilities need to be continually updated to offer new and exciting programs, not only for continued recreational and entertainment opportunities, but to make our town more attractive

As Alderman I will work with our town’s leaders and listen to the suggestions of our citizens so that we can continue to enlarge these programs and tailor them to the demands of our users.

PLANNING FOR OUR FUTURE
A determining factor when it comes to leadership is a vision for the future. Without being able to look at what we face today—and how it affects our future—it is not possible to be an effective leader. To do this successfully, our town needs strong vision of what the future will hold. We will continue to face more challenges and must continue to meet them in new ways. We must focus on creating a long-term and short-term plan for our future.

Winterville is on the brink of becoming one of the fastest growing towns in North Carolina and at a rate once never thought of. Our leadership needs to be willing and able to make decisions that are sometimes difficult and unpopular if we plan to continue to grow in the future. We need leaders who can look beyond their personals agendas and look after the best interest of our citizens.

I have the experience and vision necessary to make strong decisions and plan for the future, with a goal of helping us all enjoy a better tomorrow shaped by wise decisions and continued growth. As Alderman, I will strive to make decisions that are right for not only the present, but for the future of the town we care about so much.

This vacant Alderman seat provides me the chance to make a significant difference and help build a stronger town for all of us.

NEW BUSINESSES AND JOBS
Over the past decade we have seen our national economy be both sluggish and booming. More recently our state has taken a proactive approach to attracting new businesses and employment opportunities. Our adjoining municipalities have also realized the value in creating provisions that make it attractive for companies to relocate to the area. This is something that Winterville’s elected officials need to plan for and consider as we grow. We should not be in the business of enforcing strict zoning and local tax laws that tie the hands of local business owners and potential companies who may wish to relocate to our area. Rather, we should develop creative ways to attract economic growth by developing incentive packages to ensure that we continue to bring new growth and opportunity to our local economy.
